Bexley, OH – May 12, 2011 – A new farmers market arrives in Bexley this Thursday, courtesy of a large group of residents hungry for fresh, locally grown food.

On Thursday, May 19th, we will gather at 3:30pm for a short presentation to celebrate the opening of the NEW Bexley Farmers’ Market. And at 4:00pm, we will ring the bell to officially open the 2011 season. The first 100 patrons will receive a free market tote.

Running each Thursday from 4-7pm through the end of October, the Bexley Farmers’ Market will host a diverse group of farm and artisan food vendors. Around twenty vendors will offer a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as a selection of locally produced meats, cheeses, eggs, honey, baked goods and food carts.

The Market will have a new location, at the southeast corner of E. Main Street and S. Parkview Avenue, and will be open Thursday’s so shoppers can make fresh food purchases for the entire weekend.  The new location also offers free parking.

Amy Bodiker, Chair of the Planning Committee, says that what makes the new farmers’ market special is the level of community participation.  “Our planning committee of 25 has included a healthy cross-section of residents, farmers and business owners. We’re working collectively to make this market represent the interests of a broad range of residents and neighbors.”

“Our primary focus is on providing freshly grown food from local farms.  Yet we’re also aiming to create an authentic town square atmosphere – a place where community members can regularly meet,” says Jaime Moore, Market Manager, co-owner Wayward Seed Farm. Each week the Market will host varied festivities to further engage residents.  They’ll alternate between craft presentations, children’s activities, community outreach and food demonstrations. Listings of weekly events are available at www.bexleyfarmersmarket.com, www.facebook.com/bexleyfarmersmarket, or follow them on Twitter at twitter.com/bexleymarket.

We encourage you to join us and help start the Market off with a bang! Bring your friends and help spread the word! Come enjoy the bounty of what our local producers have to offer, season by season.
