Archive for March, 2015

Our farm’s move back to Sandusky County has been part of our plan for many years. The ecology of the area is perhaps the best in the entire state to grow fruits and vegetables. It’s in our blood, it’s in the soil, it’s in the water…it’s where we should be. I’ve had people tell me we couldn’t produce quality and quantity organically. We couldn’t control weeds or bugs. I’m so happy we didn’t listen to our naysayers and critics. We have grown and persevered, but best of all, we know that Wayward Seed Farm is in this thing for the long haul. We are pleased to continue our journey in 2015 and so grateful to our members for their shared belief in our cause of sustainable agriculture.

This spring we are piloting a multiyear investment strategy for our farm in Sandusky County. This “Slow Money” concept was conceived by our team after years of research and creative thinking. We need ongoing improvements to our farm, and just like our direct marketing sales, direct investment from our community is essential to building infrastructure. We have decided to use our CSA share, gift certificates and cash as a return on investment for multiyear members.

We have a capital infrastructure budget of $30,000 and are seeking a group of ten individuals with interest in helping us finance equipment and physical improvements to our new farm. If you have interest in an investment opportunity, we will set up a face-to-face meeting or phone conversation to review these concepts. At that time we can provide our updated P&L, including our three-year business plan. We have moved the farm to a great location to ensure consistent production and strategic growth. Now is the time to solidify our plans through crucial site improvements and efficiency.

Below are 3 options for multiyear investment; please review and give us feedback. We are open to many possibilities if a mutually beneficial agreement can be reached. As always, thanks for your interest in Wayward Seed Farm and the vision of regional food sovereignty.

We are seeking 10 members with an individual investment of $3,000.00. In return for a $3,000.00 investment, multiyear members have 3 options to choose from in relation to length of term and cash value:

Option 1: 4 Year Term
Four years of Weekly CSA with Fruit Supplement ($3,400), $100 gift certificate available at start of term, $500 cash at completion of 4th year

Option 2: 3 Year Term
Three years of Weekly CSA with Fruit Supplement ($2,550), $200 gift certificate available at start of term, $500 cash at completion of 3rd year

Option 3: 2 Year Term
Two years Weekly CSA with Fruit Supplement (1,700), $300 gift certificate available at start of term, $1,000 cash at completion of 2nd year

Budget for $30,000 capital improvements at Wayward Seed Farm:

$8,000 Well Drilling, Casing and Irrigation Equipment
$10,000 Greenhouse Equipment and Installation
$6,000 2 each Semi Trailers for Dry Storage
$6,000 30 foot Refrigerated Semi Cooler

Thank you for your consideration!

Be well,

Farmer Adam
