I want to give a quick update to all of you about our progress this spring here at the farm. We are actually well ahead of last year in terms of planting dates and crop transplanting. However, we have been super cold and wet! With this weather, I am projecting about a 10 day slide in our first box delivery. This will allow us to continue our progress here at the farm and ensure a more bountiful box for the early weeks. Additionally we have pushed back our early carrot plantings to focus on our parsnip production this season. Yes, we will have lots of carrots this year but by pushing the production back by a month we can then focus on parsnip care and weed control. I don’t know about you but roasted parsnips at Thanksgiving seem worth it to me. Garlic production looks good for both soft and hard neck varieties.
In general, things are good on the farm. Plant propagation schedules are on track with fall brassica going in this week. CSA shares are still available so give a shout to your colleagues or friends, seasonal eating is the way to go! I’m heading back out to the tractor, there is no shortage of work to be done… Great food needs lots of attention.
Be Well,
Farmer Adam
And now to our recent winners…
Last week’s winner of the 12 week, every-other-week, CSA share is Katie Tansky! For Katie, it’s a family affair. They have been members for years and always take advantage of our love for and partnership with Cafe Brioso. Congratulations Katie!
This week’s winner of Wayward Seed Farm totes from years past is Ryan Thomas. We’ll be digging out a few from the early years and adding to Ryan’s stash of fashionable market totes. Congrats Ryan!
We’re nearing the end of the-season-without-farm-fresh-vegetables, and getting closer to your first delivery. As Farmer Adam said, we’ll be delaying a bit due to weather, and will send along more details in the next week.
As always, thank you and spread the word…we have some shares left and would love to add a few new faces to the family! (Click here and sign up today!)
